After an unexpected break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 46th National MicroCar Rally marked a welcome return for the UK’s microcar community in 2021. Enthusiasts from across the country gathered once again to celebrate their shared passion for these unique and characterful vehicles, making it one of the most eagerly anticipated National Rallies in the event’s history.
The rally was organised by Alison McCarthy and the Heinkel Trojan Club, who hosted the event at the excellent Lower Lacon Caravan Park near Wem, Shropshire. The spacious venue provided the perfect setting for a weekend of camping, socialising and enjoying an incredible display of classic microcars, bubble cars and other small, unusual vehicles.
Throughout the weekend, participants enjoyed scenic road runs through the beautiful Shropshire countryside, giving members the opportunity to drive their vehicles as they were intended while sharing the experience with fellow enthusiasts. Back at the campsite, owners exchanged stories, technical advice and restoration tips, reinforcing the friendly atmosphere that has always been at the heart of the National MicroCar Rally.
As always, Sunday saw the rally field filled with an impressive variety of vehicles on display, ranging from rare bubble cars and iconic three-wheelers to more modern microcars. Visitors were able to admire the cars up close, chat with owners and learn more about the fascinating history behind these remarkable machines.
The weekend concluded with the traditional prize-giving ceremony, recognising outstanding vehicles and celebrating the effort that owners put into preserving and enjoying their microcars. Following such a long wait for the return of the National Rally, the 2021 event was a fitting celebration of the resilience and enthusiasm of the microcar community.
